Rev. Ray and Pat Amos
Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished from their sight. They said to one another, “Were not our hearts burning within us while He was speaking to us on the road, while He was explaining the Scriptures to us?” (Luke 24:31-33)
We once had a car that needed a muffler, but we were out of money and it would have to wait a few days. It was loud and embarrassing, but that was just the way it had to be. Then pay day came and I took it to the muffler shop.
Dreading to hear how much it cost I stepped up to pay when it was finished. “You are good to go,” the man said. “How much do I owe you?” I asked. “Nothing,” he said, “You had a lifetime warranty on the old one.” I had the answer to our need all that time and I did not know it.
I wonder how many days we go worrying about things when the answer is closer than we think. Two people traveled the Emmaus road whose lives seemed destroyed by the death of Jesus. They did not know that the one they were grieving over had been walking with them every step of the way.
There is a song of faith that says,
“Time after time I went searching for some peace of mind…
and all the while someone was begging to free me from sin…
He was there all the time, waiting patiently in line,
He (Jesus) was there all the time.”
“The LORD is near to all who call on him…” (Psalm 145:18) “Open our eyes Lord. We want to see Jesus.”
