THOUGHT FOR TODAY, JULY 19, 2017: FINDING PEACE IN A WORLD OF CONFLICT

Conflict is all around us: nation against nation, liberal against conservative, labor against management, family member against family member, and some of us against the rest of us.

There are some people who are at peace in the midst of it all. “Great peace have those who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble” (Psalm 119:165). Those who love God’s word have a peace which the world can neither receive nor understand. Jesus promised it: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14:27).

Paul tells us to pray for it: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Phil 4:6-7).

Let the impenetrable fortress of God’s peace encircle your heart and mind in Christ Jesus and let the world rage on.
