Isaiah 55:1

“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.” Isaiah 55:1
We step inside the store and right away hear, “Can I help you find something?” My usual answer is, “We are just looking.” Some go to the store to browse and others go to buy something. The first may leave empty handed, and the other with what was wanted or needed.

We can do the same with the Bible; browse or seek. A person can just browse through its pages, pick up a verse to look at and put back; or we can receive from its storehouse of grace.

In the store the browser may have a reason for not buying something. Some will say, “This is not what I want;” and for another the cost is more than can be afforded. In the Bible, the store of God’s unsearchable riches, it is not always about what we want, but what we need that cannot be obtained anywhere else at any price.

It was Christmas and the church was having a party for some children whose families were going through tough times. There was a visit to Santa, and then a large bag of gifts for each child. One little girl was so excited, then she stopped, and with disappointment in her voice, she said, “But we have to pay for it.” “No sweetheart, it has already been paid for, this is yours.”

Expense is not a problem: Everything is already paid for. Every item of faith, hope and love is a gift. Take hold of the wealth of Christ; you cannot carry away too much, but you can take too little.

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
