TELL IT TO JESUS – John 2:1-11
There are people who say a great deal with few words. Mary, the Mother of Jesus, seemed to be such a person.
Not many of Mary’s words are recorded, but we should pay attention to the ones that are. Consider John 2:1-11. What she said is a great lesson in prayer.
The passage begins with, “There was a wedding and Jesus was invited.” (It is always good to invite Jesus to our life events.) A family was having a social disaster, and Mary cared enough to tell Jesus. It is unclear what she thought Jesus would do. He had not done any miracles yet. She taught us that it is enough to tell Jesus.
With few words she got to the point, and said, “They have no wine.” She didn’t try to advise Him what to do; she simply expressed the need as she understood it. It is a great freedom to know that we are not on God’s advisory board. BRING IT TO JESUS, TELL IT TO JESUS, AND LEAVE IT WITH JESUS.
She also spoke to the servants the lesson that we often omit from our prayer life: “Whatever Jesus tells you to do, do it.” They did, and Jesus’ first miracle became their own miracle.
The hymn says, “Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus, He is a Friend that’s well known.
You’ve no other such a friend or brother, Tell it to Jesus alone.”
