1 Peter 1:19
“For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life you inherited from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ.”
When we inspected our planes in the Air Force we had maintenance forms to fill out if we discovered something that needed attention or repaired. If it was something that we deemed dangerous to flight and life we placed a red X on the form. Then the plane was immediately grounded until it was fixed and cleared to fly again.
The children of Israel were told to put the blood of the sacrificed lamb on their doorpost. Then, when the death angel passed over; if he saw the red upon the door, he would pass over that house, (The lamb had paid the price of their freedom). Christians once sang with spirit, “When I see the blood, I will pass, I will pass over you.”
Rahab was told to hang a crimson cord in her window; then all who were in her home would be saved from the invading army.
In the Air Force we didn’t want a red X; but it is different in the Kingdom of Christ. Here I want a red X written by my name. Then I am ready for flight because my sins have been crossed out by the Blood of Jesus.
A beautiful gospel song says, “In letters of crimson, God wrote His love on the hillside so long, long ago; for you and for me Jesus died, and love’s greatest story was told. I love you, I love you; that’s what Calvary said; I love you, I love you, I love you, Written in Red.”
I am thankful that on the doorpost of my heart, and the doorpost of our home, is Red. “There to my heart was the blood applied, GLORY TO HIS NAME.”
