John 7:37-38

“Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.”

“Isaac reopened the wells that had been dug in the time of his father Abraham, which the Philistines had stopped up after Abraham died…” Genesis 26:18

Old wells don’t have old water; and the modern church doesn’t have a new and different Savior. The process of pumping water may be by an old hand pump, or some new computerized system, but the thirsty soul could care little about the merits of either; it is the water that matters.

I was pastor of a small congregation. A new church was being started nearby. A couple of recruiters visited a member of our church and said that they had so much more to offer. My friend said, “Perhaps you will have more programs, but you will never offer more than our church because we offer Christ.”

Isaac came along in his Father’s footsteps. The Bible says that he reopened his Father’s wells because the enemy had closed them. He also rebuilt altars because people need water, and people need the Lord.

Sometimes we just need to reopen the wells we have instead of digging new ones. The Devil has a way of stopping up our mind and soul. When that happens we exist on artificial and contaminated water. Jesus offers the only living water that will satisfy the supreme thirst of life.

Large or small, modern or old; those things are only about pumps. It is the water that matters. None of them would mean much if there was no water to offer. Jesus said, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.” John 7:37-38

Let the children of God sing: “I thirsted in the barren land of sin and shame, And nothing satisfying there I found; But to the blessed cross of Christ one day I came, Where springs of living water did abound.

Drinking at the springs of living water, Happy now am I, my soul they satisfy; Drinking at the springs of living water, O wonderful and bountiful supply.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
