Rev. Nate and Julie Ware

I have to admit that on the way to the wedding the other day, we got a little lost. No GPS, I thought . . . I can use my trusted map and directions. Of course, if I am a bit turned around and wait a mili-second too long, Nate is already headed the wrong direction . . . and I have to find our way back.

Before GPS, or when it was incredibly too expensive, I navigated our way with maps through 15 European countries. There was a file box that I compiled and brought with us arranged in sequence, with maps, information about countries, cities and places of interest that we would want to see and visit. Also brought along were several books . . . the largest weighed about 2 pounds, that one was about camping Europe . . . Not forgetting Formmers Travel Guides, like Europe on a Dime or books on travel for tightwads . . . Not that we wanted to be but staying within a tight budget range was a must.

Now back to the maps . . . You could always picture me in the passengers seat with a map. A map for me then, was a must because I can’t find my way out of an elevator without a map. To Nate’s credit, even going to a strange place, he always knows his way back without a map. I need directions for “someplace different”, coming and going.

It was vacation time when we lived in California. We decided to follow roads leading to California’s hot springs . . . We would have to have, not only state road maps, but city and county road maps, as well. You would not believe some of the roads we traveled to get to some of the hot springs. One map led us though an orange grove . . . Neither would you have believed the look of disbelief and confusion on Nate’s face as my county map led us through the orange grove to get to a paved road. I had to reassure him several times. The look of relief on his face when we got to the paved proper road was also, immeasurable.

A friend and I were talking about the joy it is to travel with the Lord . . . That it is like being totally lost and asking God for a ride. The happiness that we feel that He actually picked us up and is taking us for a ride . . . sometimes through bumpy roads and some deep mud-holes but we don’t dare get off because we would be lost again. Somehow even through the mud-holes and bumps in the road, there is always the joy that He cares enough to give us a ride. There’s a smile on His face because He knows that He will always love us and get us to where we need to go. When we are riding with Jesus the Spirit of the Living Can Fall Afresh on Us.

Proverbs 3:5-6
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
