“Blessed is the Nation Whose God is the Lord”
There is a certain feeling I get when I walk into a Church sanctuary. It doesn’t matter if it is a little building by the side of the road, or a huge cathedral in the city, they are all Holy Ground. Their altars have been soaked in tears as saints and sinners have reached for the hands of God.
These Bethels have been scattered across our nation as a staircase where the hard rocks of life became a meeting place with the Lord.
There the Jacobs of the ages found the encouragement to keep going when the night was long and dark. The Hagars who wept for the unfairness of life found the pity of the Lord, and help, by the side of the road. Sinners heard the Savior say, “Neither do I condemn you,” and the self-righteous had to drop the rocks they intended to throw.
In these earthly houses of Worship two have become one; and one has laid the other in the arms of God. Little boys wore Dad’s robe, and girls wrapped a doll in swaddling clothes on candlelit snowy evenings. Choirs sang great hymns; preachers proclaimed that hell was hot and home was just over in the Glory Land.
Churches were built by someone who had a vision from God; and preserved by the blood, sweat and tears of generations who prayed that the ones to come would keep the faith.
It is July 4, Independence Day, and these old Arks have weathered storms and wars, hard times and good times. “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.”
Old citadels of faith have been the keeper of America. Their prayers have been lifted from bended knees that God would bless the land and keep us free. Many still hold a lonely flag that pleads, “Don’t forget me now.” It is not the politicians who preserve the homeland, but ordinary and hardworking people of faith who still bow the knee. God forbid that we fail to carry the torch to the next generation.
“If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14
