“MY POWER MADE PERFECT IN WEAKNESS”
“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9
“Take away my weakness” is a prayer that many people have prayed. Even the Apostle Paul prayed for his thorn in the flesh to be removed. He graciously accepted the Lord’s answer of “no.” It seems that his weakness was where the Lord got the most good. I wonder how often it works that way.
Who hasn’t wondered why we couldn’t improve some things that just seem to hinder our life? Certain fears, worries, and soul taxing situations seem to never go away. Those kinds of things may be what keep folks humble, compassionate, and understanding in our work for Christ. Out of them may come some of the Lord’s greatest acts of love and power.
The truth is that I don’t want thorns. In fact, “Thy will be done,” is not always what I want; but I hope that it is what I am willing to accept. Christ certainly wore thorns in His brow. In the New Testament there are far more prayers for faithful endurance and boldness, than prayers for escape.
Isaiah said, “Encourage the exhausted, and make staggering knees firm. Say to those with an anxious and panic-stricken heart, “Be strong, fear not! Indeed, your God will come…” Weary traveler hold on to the hand that is holding on to you. Just remember that we are not home yet.
The song says,
“It will be worth it all when we see Jesus! Life’s trials will seem so small when we see Christ. One glimpse of his dear face, all sorrow will erase. So, bravely run the race till we see Christ.”
