“FRESH DRINK FOR NEW LIFE”
They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”
In Air Force basis training we were given salt tablets during outdoor drills. Someone was designated to carry them in a canteen that rattled every step that he took. Now, I prefer to get my salt in a ham biscuit. We will certainly be thirsty after eating one of those country delights.
Being a “little thirsty” is a good thing because it takes us to the water. The same is true spiritually. There is always a chance of losing our thirst for the things of God. When that happens our soul suffers from spiritual dehydration. This is another reason that we must stay faithful to our work of being the salt of the earth. We should be helping to create thirst in the lives of each other. Who has inspired you to take a fresh drink from the dipper when life became like stagnant water?
Blessed and happy are the people who thirst for righteousness because they shall be satisfied. A woman came to a well with a parched soul. She was so tired of a way of life that satisfied nothing, and that had just about dried up her heart to the point that she didn’t even have a tear left to cry. That was the day she met the Spring of Living Water. Jesus opened an artesian well within her soul, and she ran with new life and a flood of joy that created thirst in others. It seemed that the whole town came to the water because they desired a fresh drink of new life.
“I thirsted in the barren land of sin and shame,
And nothing satisfying there I found;
But to the blessed cross of Christ one day I came,
Where springs of living water did abound.
Drinking at the springs of living water,
Happy now am I, my soul they satisfy;
Drinking at the springs of living water,
O wonderful and bountiful supply.”
