“KEEP BELIEVING”
She sat by a lonely road and cried. The last words she had heard were, “Just go away, I don’t care where, just go!” Now here she was with a child at the point of death from dehydration and an empty water bottle on a desert road. She cried more for him than herself; parents do that. Why had God forsaken them? “Hagar, what’s wrong?” That was God’s question as clear as anything. Doesn’t He know; of course He does.
She was crying, but it was the boy that the Lord heard. Do you get it? It is so easily missed. Her prayer was answered because the Lord heard the one that she was crying for.
“Don’t give up, but lift up your son, hold him, believe for him.” The Lord opened her eyes and she saw a well of water. Did God just put it there, or had it been there all the time. Answered prayers are like that; sometimes they are just put there by God, and other times the Holy Spirit opens our eyes to see the answer and help that is right in front of us.
She was lonely, but not alone. She felt hopeless, yet hope hung around anyway. Remember the words of the hymn: “O ye beneath life’s crushing load, whose forms are bending low, who toil along the climbing way with painful steps and slow, look now! For glad and golden hours come swiftly on the wing. O REST BESIDE THE WEARY ROAD, and hear the angels sing.
Are you are presently traveling the weary road where there seems to be no exits? When the way is long, the burden too heavy, and tears flow down like rain; Keep Believing! Another song says that tears are a language that God understands; and still another reminds us that “He was there all the time, Waiting patiently in love, He was there all the time.”
