Hebrews 8:12
DEVOTION FOR TODAY, August 19, 2019
“For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”
The Bristol race is over and a caravan has been leaving because there are other races to run. Some people are left with the task of cleaning up tons of trash that has been left behind at the track and in the campgrounds; it will take a few days.
Several of us were at another kind of race yesterday. We are all in the race of life, and I like to think of church as a much needed pit stop. Without it we soon will find ourselves in a rat race. Worship is one of the ways that the Lord restores our soul. I can’t tell you how many times my burdened heart has found the wings of the morning as the music began, and our worship, was being offered up to God.
I hope that we left some trash behind yesterday. The Bible says, “let us throw off everything that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” (Hebrews 12:1)
There is no landfill that can hide our sin, but there is a place of “no more” for every one of them. Micah 7:6 says, “You will cast out all our sins into the depths of the sea.” That is great news when we remember that a day is coming when the sea is “no more” (Revelation 21:1). Did you ever sing this song?
“Gone, gone, gone, gone
Yes my sins are gone,
Now my soul is free
And in my heart’s a song;
Buried in the deepest sea
Yes, that’s good enough for me–
I shall live eternally
Praise God!
My sins are G-O-N-E gone!”
It is Monday morning and the caravan of believers has other races to run this week. If we will win the race we must stay behind the leader and keep our eyes on him, Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.
Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
