“Lasting Impression”

The little wooden church had stood next to a large building on the street corner for many years. It had never been a large congregation, but always faithful. Then things changed in town; people moved out and new business moved in. It isn’t easy to be an out of date building in a modern world. It had to struggle to keep its doors open as new and remodeled office buildings took over the street.

Then there was a renewed interest in the church, but for different reasons than before. It was finally sold, and torn down to make a parking lot. That was when everyone discovered a strange thing: Against the side of the remodeled building that had stood beside it for years was an imprinted silhouette of the little church building. The sun and rain had bleached the exposed wall of the structure, except the part that had been protected by the church.

The church had made a greater and longer lasting impression on its neighbors than it could have imagined (It always does). They could remove the building, but the impression was still there. How many of us have the imprint of a faithful church upon our heart?

I understand changing times and the need to stay up to date with the modern world. I also understand that the Savior is the same yesterday, today, and forever; and steadfastness in faith is what makes a lasting impression.

Don’t give up because much of the world has become prodigal. When the false promises and illusions of this culture have left souls troubled and empty; then perhaps some will remember what it was like back home where Love abounded and God is good. Perhaps some will say, “I will arise and go back home.” Let’s make sure that we are here, faithful and ready with open arms.

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
