Revelation 22:13
THOUGHT FOR TODAY, September 21, 2019
“I am Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.”
It was Garrison Keillor who said, “When the world goes temporarily to the dogs, cats must learn to be circumspect, walk on fences, sleep in trees, and have faith that all this woofing isn’t the last word.”
When asked how his wife was doing, the man answered, “She’s in a bad way.” I knew what he was saying: that she was very sick, and having a hard time. Many would agree that things are in a bad way. In Noah’s day it was written that, “The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time.” What is He seeing today?
It seems like a good time to dust off the old hymn that says, “In times like these you need a Savior. In times like these you need an anchor; be very sure, be very sure -Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock! This Rock is Jesus, Yes, He’s the One…” We have a choice: to anchor up to the Rock of Ages, or anchor down to shifting sand.
“When the world goes temporarily to the dogs, cats must learn to be circumspect, walk on fences, sleep in trees, have faith that all this woofing isn’t the last word.” That is good advice for those who are trying to live right in a world gone wild. Learn to be cautious. Jesus told us to be wise as serpents, yet harmless as doves. Walk on Fences, or stay above the rat-race; and sleep in trees (Rest having confidence in God). Last of all remember that all this woofing isn’t the last word. Jesus had the first word, and He will have the last.
