Matthew 25:14 King James Version (KJV)

THOUGHT FOR TODAY, November 13, 2019

“For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.”

The snow continued to fall in the silent woods. Somewhere in the distance a train clattered along the frozen tracks. The haunting whistle soothed and yet saddened the soul. The old man wondered about its passengers; who was it bringing, and who was it taking?

The wood was in the box, the coal in the bucket, and the fire was singing in the stove. On the mountain it was enchanting with a pinch of melancholy when the day retired and pulled the darkness over it as a person would pull a starry quilt over them at bedtime.

As the ghostly static of the radio faded in and out; someone was leaving on that “New River Train,” and another had “played around this old town too long…winter was coming on, so he had to travel on.” The old man smiled at the thought of it all: People coming and going. Someday he would board another train to that blissful shore where the angels wait to join us in God’s praise forevermore.” He patted his hound on the head and began to sing:

“The Lord has been so good to me
I feel like traveling on
Until that blessed home I see
I feel like traveling on

Yes, I feel like traveling on
I feel like traveling on
My heavenly home is bright and fair
I feel like traveling on…”

There was a time, and a way of life, that I hope those who remember will never forget, and a destination that I pray we will not miss when the conductor calls, “All Aboard!”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
