1 Peter 2:1 King James Version (KJV)
THOUGHT FOR TODAY, November 18, 2019
“Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings
Are we ready to move ahead with the glorious life of Christ? Have we been to Calvary to get our ticket? We can have Peace with God today; and we can have the assurance that we are ready to take our flight when the call comes for boarding.
The unrest in our soul needs a stopping place. If you are going through a security checkpoint and have something in your possession that is not allowed, then you will be told that the only way that you can pass through is to leave it behind; what will you do? The answer is found in what you want most: to hold on to whatever it is, or to get to where you are going.
The cross is our point of entry into the Kingdom of God. There we must check our heart. “So get rid of your feelings of hatred. Don’t just pretend to be good! Be done with dishonesty and jealousy and talking about others behind their backs. Now that you realize how kind the Lord has been to you, put away all evil, deception, envy, and fraud. Long to grow up into the fullness of your salvation…” 1 Peter 2:1
Not only is the cross where the old life ends, it is where new life begins. There, old things lose their attraction and start to pass away because we have found something more wonderful than we ever dreamed. As the Gospel Song says, “Thanks to Calvary I am not the man/woman I used to be. Thanks to Calvary things are different than before. While the tears ran down my face I tried to tell them, ‘Thanks to Calvary, I don’t come (live) here anymore.”
When the last call comes for “Flight Final” we don’t want to be in a panic trying to get through the checkpoint. Today is the day of salvation if we want it. Lift up your heads and see Him coming, “Redemption draws nigh.” If we are holding on to anything that will keep us from our Heavenly flight; isn’t it time to let go and take the hand of Christ?
