Acts 16:34

THOUGHT FOR TODAY, November 26, 2019

“…he and his entire household rejoiced that he had become a believer in God.”

C. H. Surgeon once wrote, “When home is ruled according to God’s word, angels might be asked to stay with us, and they would not find themselves out of their element.”

There was once a time when a saying hung on the wall of almost every house, “Be it ever so humble, there is no place like home.” We must guard our household in days like these. As always we must, “Choose today who we will serve, as for me and my house we will serve the Lord.”

We who grew up with the influence of a Christian home are greatly blessed. We did not see a halo on our parent’s head, but we did see the Love of God in their heart. For many of us faith was both taught and caught. It was the breath of Heaven in our homes.

We did hear music in the air; and it was often the south voice of a song that helped the family through another day: “Precious Lord, take my hand,’ ‘When the storms of life are raging, stand by me.” Our families had trials and temptations, and were tempted with a load of care; but they also had a refuge when they took everything to God in prayer; why should it be any different today?

It was Timothy’s Mother and Grandmother who passed along genuine faith to him (2nd Timothy 1:5). From whom did you first catch the faith that led you to the Savior?

When the Philippians jailer was saved, the Bible says that “he and his entire family were baptized” (Acts 16:33). Call me simplistic, but I still believe that his home was such that everyone could say, “If it’s good enough for my Father, it is good enough for me.” We may not be able to choose the way our children will live when they are grown, but we can choose to show them the Way of God.

“Happy the home where Jesus’ name
Is sweet to every ear;
Where children early speak His fame,
And parents hold Him dear.

Happy the home where prayer is heard,
And praise is wont to rise;
Where parents love the sacred Word
And all its wisdom prize.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
