“Why”

Sometimes I get asked the “Why” question. It can be the most difficult of all to answer. When I was a young pastor I thought that I was expected to answer it. It didn’t take long to realize that most of those questions were unanswerable. Sharing my struggle with an older pastor friend; he gave me the advice that set me free to minister more faithfully. He said, “You don’t have to defend God, He is big enough to take care of Himself.”

Some of you have heard me say to your situation, “I don’t know why, but I do know this, ‘God loves you.” Even if we could know why, I am not sure that it would help much. It is experiencing the Love of God through the tough times that strengthens our faith and keeps us going.

There is another “Why” question that is just as unanswerable as the first. It is, “Why are we so blessed?” Why do we have so much more than most of the world population? Remember the man who was healed by the pool of Bethesda (John 5). Why was he chosen when there were plenty others waiting on a miracle?

Perhaps “Why?” isn’t as important as “What.” What do we do with our blessings?” What does God expect from this?” GRACE IS NEVER WITHOUT PURPOSE.

Today is Thanksgiving, and while our blessings are on our mind, we should remember that Jesus said, “For unto to whom much is given, from him/her much will be required.” Remember that we are stewards of our blessings, and not the owner.

“Who Am I” sang by Diane Bloomer

“Who am I that The King would bleed and die for?
Who am I that He would pray not my will, but Thine Lord?
The answer I may never know;
Why He ever loved me so,
But to that old rugged cross He’d go
For who am I?”

“Give thanks with a grateful heart”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
