Galatians 4:4
DEVOTION FOR TODAY, December 25, 2019
“But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman…”
The sun that rose on Bethlehem was the same as it was the day before. The lines still formed to register for Caesar’s taxes. The inn was full of weary travelers, and the world remained under the curse of sin; yet for Mary and Joseph, and for Heaven itself, there was an eternal difference to the day.
The angels had sung the most glorious cantata that earth would ever hear. They only sang it once; it was unforgettable. Singing in a field, at night, for lowly shepherds didn’t bother them because they did it for the glory of God.
Life comes at us hard and fast. The morning news on the TV is already bad. Travel is a nightmare for many. Last minute store lines were long, and tempers short. Did we miss something, or is that the point? On a day just like today Christ was born. In the midst of all our confusion, our broken world is still the object of God’s Love.
When a child comes into our life we are both prepared and unprepared for all that it means. Ready or not, the time has come; it is Christmas. Unto us a child is born and we call His name, JESUS. What will we do now? Will we go to see him (like the shepherds), worship him (like the Magi), take him in our arms (like Simeon), or speak of him (like Anna)? What will we do about the baby?
The sun rose on a Bethlehem morning. It was the same as it was the day before; but now a little baby was sleeping while young parents were wondering; and a tree was growing on a distant hill, and like the baby it had a purpose. The child shall be called JESUS for he shall save his people from their sin.
It is Christmas Day, thanks be to God for the unspeakable gift.
Grace and Peace are in Him, Rev Ray
