Matthew 1:23

A SONG A DAY, January 2, 2020

“One Day”

“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel.” We are reminded of this truth each time we sing the hymn “One Day.”

One day when Heaven was filled with His praises,
One day when sin was as black as could be,
Jesus came forth to be born of a virgin,
Dwelt among men, my example is He!
Refrain:
Living, He loved me; dying, He saved me;
Buried, He carried my sins far away;
Rising, He justified freely forever;
One day He’s coming—oh, glorious day!

We have no “story” for this hymn beyond the fact that it was written by J. Wilbur Chapman and set to music by one of his students, Charles Howard Marsh.

The “story” must be our personal story if we are to sing in spirit and truth: He loved me; he saved me; one day he is coming for me.
