Matthew 7:22-23

DEVOTION FOR TODAY, January 7, 2020

“On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you…”

There is a question that we must never stop asking even though it has already been answered. “Why did Jesus die on the cross?

I know that we know the answer, yet many have stopped knowing. There are a lot of agendas that are leeching the body of Christ and taking us away from the cause of Calvary. We must never reduce the spilled blood of our Savior to anything less than salvation for a lost and sinful world.

There are many causes to be fought for in this world, but the cross has only one; to save us from our sin; and we all need that. We are not equipped for any other Kingdom work until we have first been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb.

Each one must choose how we respond to the call of Christ on our life. The apostle Paul said, “For I resolved to know nothing except Jesus Christ and him crucified.” (1 Corinthians 2:2)

At judgment we might be able to say, “Lord, didn’t I take a stand on many issues? Didn’t I fight for the right cause? I even did it in your name.” Will he have to answer, “Yes you did, but you ignored the most important thing: the wages of sin is death; and Jesus paid the debt for you, but you turned it down; you said that you didn’t need it.”

“In my hands no price I bring; simply to the Cross I cling.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
