“Today is the Gift of God”

God alone knows how and why he chooses the path that we are to walk. When he weaves a life in a Mother’s womb; how does he choose the thread? We are obviously products of different material, yet created by the same God.

Sometimes I want to run back to the way it was, but back is only a memory. There is no use to run ahead because the road is not yet. Today is the gift of God. “This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24)

Yet, we are a product of where we have been. The hills we played on, the people we have loved, the times that have been shared; each one has been the gentle stroke of the artist’s brush.

There are more eternal memories that are yet to be made in a land with plenty of life and laughter. We will no longer see Heaven as looking at a silhouette, but we will know what our eyes cannot now see, our ears cannot hear, nor can we begin to comprehend. Heaven is a beauty that can only be described with words like jasper, emeralds, pearls, gold, and such things that are magnified and then placed on a sea of crystals with endless reflections.

Someday we will come to a place where Jordan’s chilly waters bid us to step in. It is the beauty on the other side, and the voices; yes the familiar voices that warm the water. Who is this that walks with me? “Be not afraid, I am with you,” he gently speaks as waters part and a path of gold appears. An old song says it best: “When I come to the river at ending of day. When the last winds of sorrow have blown; there’ll be somebody waiting to show me the way, I won’t have to cross Jordan alone.”

Today, we press on not knowing where the path may lead us. It is more important that we realize that we walk with God. “Walk on through the wind, Walk on through the rain; Tho’ your dreams be tossed and blown. Walk on, Walk on, with hope in your heart, and you’ll never walk alone, you’ll never walk alone.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
