Matthew 6:26

DEVOTION FOR TODAY, March 21, 2020

“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not more valuable than they?”

Somewhere I heard the story of the city workers who were trimming limbs off of trees along the street. As they were about to cut a limb from a tree they noticed a robin on its nest. Not wanting to harm the birds they decide to leave it alone until another day. Later in the summer when they did come back the birds were gone so they cut the limb off. Woven in the empty nest was a piece of paper that had been picked up off the street. It had been torn from a page of a child’s Sunday school book; the words on it said, “We trust in the Lord our God.”

A favorite poem is “Overhear in an Orchard” by Elizabeth Cheny:

Said the robin to the sparrow, “I would really like to know,
Why these anxious human beings rush around and worry so.”

Said the sparrow to the robin, “Friend, I think that it must be,
That they have no heavenly Father, such as cares for you and me.”

It was C.H. Spurgeon who said, “Anxiety does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows, but only empties today of its strength.” How true those words are.

The hymn says: “Simply trusting every day; trusting through a stormy way; even when my faith is small, trusting Jesus, that is all. Trusting as the moments fly; trusting as that days go by; trusting Him, whate’er befall, trusting Jesus, that is all.”

Grace and Peace,
Rev Ray
