“I Must Stay at Your House Today”

“He never expected to hear those words; after all, he was not exactly Mr. popularity around town. He could not remember the last time someone came to his house. “Why me, and why did he say that he must come to my house today?”

The Bible says that Zacchaeus received Jesus gladly. We know of nothing else that Jesus said to him, but being with the Lord changed his life. All that he had gained in a lifetime was nothing compared to what he found in Jesus in a single day.

In Luke’s Gospel Jesus left Zacchaeus’ house and in just a few verses after that he rode into Jerusalem on a donkey with palm branches waving, and shouts of hosanna all around him. Suddenly it became clear why Jesus said it must be today. He would never pass that way again. You might say that this was Zacchaeus’ last altar call.

Today is the day before Palm Sunday. In a time when many opportunities are temporarily taken from us, we still have Jesus. The virus is separating a lot of people for a little while; but Jesus still goes where we can’t. He makes sure that no one is alone.

Even though we cannot worship together tomorrow, we can invite Jesus into our heart and home. Do not let it be a day of bemoaning the fact that you can’t go to church. (That only enables the devil). Wave your palms, a branch off a tree, or lift up your hands to the Lord. Blessed is he who comes into our lives, our homes, hospital room, or anywhere we are.

“Hosanna in the highest!’ That ancient song we sing, for Christ is our redeemer, the Lord of Heaven our King. O may we ever praise Him with heart and life and voice, and in His blissful presence eternally rejoice!”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
