Proverbs 30:26

DEVOTION FOR TODAY, September 19, 2020

“The conies are but a feeble folk yet they make their houses in the rocks.”

She gathered her children by her side. She would put her arms around them and protect them all their life if she could; but that is not possible. The Bible says to teach our children the way they should go. Then we must trust that they will remember and not depart from it.

Life teaches us many things; and one lesson that comes in time is that we are a feeble people when it comes to the trials and battles that we certainly will face. We cannot make it by our own strength; but wisdom is a greater power over any foe.

“Hear me children, listen to what I say.” Her voice had the fragrance of tears. “The secret to life is where you make your home”. You are conies that are called feeble because you are defenseless; yet you are wisely strong because you live in the rocks where nothing can get to you and harm you. Always stay close to the rocks; love them and never stray away because the further you go from them the weaker you become.

Dear child of God. The Apostle Paul wrote that Christ is that Rock that travels with us. Are we wise enough to know that we are weak, but He is strong? We too are no match for the enemy of life, but we have a hiding place in the cleft of the Rock. Our soul prays with the psalmist: “From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I” (Psalm 61:2).

The secret is to stand on Christ the solid rock, and to make Him your dwelling place. As the hymn says, and it is true:

“He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock,
That shadows a dry, thirsty land;
He hideth my life in the depths of His love,
And covers me there with His hand,
And covers me there with His hand.”
