John 18:37
DEVOTION FOR TODAY, November 4, 2020
“Day after Election”
“You are a king, then!” said Pilate. Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.” John 18:37
It is the day after the elections, and we wait on a projected winner. Regardless of whether things go our way or not, the unchanging fact remains that Jesus Christ is King.
He was born the King. No one voted him in, and no one votes him out. We decide if we will live in or out of the kingdom of God. Every day is Election Day for us. Every opportunity to serve Christ, or to speak the Name of Jesus; each temptation that comes our way, and times of worship are all voting moments for us.
Do you know where the greatest polling place in the world is? It once was on a hillside near Jerusalem. There upon a cross God cast his vote for humanity; for you and me. We have been chosen by God to live eternally in Heaven. The vote has been cast it will not be changed.
Many of us have already cast our vote for Christ to reign in our heart. There are others who refuse to accept the results of Calvary. Each one must choose whether we will open our heart to Him. “Choose you this day whom you will serve; as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Jesus is not a politician, but a Savior. When we doubt his Love, just take another look at Calvary. If He could Love us like that, why wouldn’t we want Him to rule our heart? The hymn says, “King of my life, I crown Thee now, thine shall the glory be.”
I stayed up late last night waiting to see election results. I went to bed not knowing who the winner would be. It is enough that we can close our eyes knowing that the Lord is King and the heavens rings: God reigns, let the earth be glad!
