“Greatest Name Ever Received”

“I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it.” Revelation 2:17

I had been introduced to a minster who commented on my name saying, “Amos, that is the name of a good prophet, I will remember your name.” The next time I saw him, he shook my hand and said, “Brother Jeremiah, it is good to see you.”

One of the greatest gifts that we ever received was our name. In most cases they were thoughtfully chosen and, perhaps even prayed about. The Bible places a lot of importance on names. Some have even been given, or changed, by God.

To know someone’s name is to have a certain amount of power. If you are walking down the street and someone calls your name; what do you do? Even if you just halt for a moment, the mention of your name was powerful enough to stop you. We are reminded daily of the dangers of Identity Theft. Some people can do terrible things with another person’s name, and yet, the conversation of kind and loving folks adds glory and beauty to the names of people that they know.

Today’s text is about a white stone with a new name written on it that no other person knows. White is the color of victory; the smooth colored stone was often used as a ticket to get access to a place or event. When I think about this I want to shout. We have a victorious pass to a land where no one will have power over us but the loving Savior.

Your name is written in the capital of your birth state. Did you ever stop to think that your name is written in the annals of Heaven? If you have been born again, then your birth record is recorded in the Lamb’s Book of Life. That is a reason to pick up the tempo in our jubilation as we sing:

“There’s a new name written down in glory,
And it’s mine, O yes, it’s mine!
And the white robed angels sing the story,
“A sinner has come home.”
For there’s a new name written down in glory,
And it’s mine, O yes, it’s mine!
With my sins forgiven I am bound for Heaven,
Never more to roam.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
