Philippians 1:3
“I thank my God every time I remember you.”
“TREASURY OF FRIENDS”
I think that what makes birthday celebrations so special is that you don’t have to win anything, accomplish one of life’s goals, or do some great work to have them. All that is required is to be born and share your life with amazing people.
I do not claim to have lived like Job, but I do feel a kinship to a verse in his story: “And the Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning.” Job 42:12
I suppose seventy-one falls into the latter-day category. He was blessed with an abundance of camels, donkeys and the like. I wouldn’t have room for them on Harkleroad Street, but I am happy to have room in my heart for so many wonderful friends and family like you.
Yesterday was a birthday filled with indescribable surprises and blessings. What a blessing to have two young boys on their way to school to call and sing Happy Birthday; and to say, “We miss you.” There were so many calls, more singing, cards and well wishes that I am overwhelmed.
The amazing thing is that such a wonderful day, and the treasury of so many friends and family is pure grace. No one can ever say to another, “I deserve your friendship.” That would never be true. Friends are gifts to one another, the sharing of lives, unconditional love. They remember and are remembered, they laugh together and are the first to hold your hand when you cry; and when they are separated by miles and circumstances, they hold each other in their hearts.
Forgive my rambling, but how else can I share my heart and say thanks for all that you have done to make my birthday so special. I feel like one of the wealthiest people on earth. I thank God upon every remembrance of you.
“How can I say thanks
For the things You have done for me?
Things so undeserved,
Yet You gave to prove Your love for me;
The voices of a million angels
Could not express my gratitude.
All that I am and ever hope to be,
I owe it all to Thee.”
Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
