“RAY AMOS – How do people make it who do not know the Lord? – 2 John 1:3”

2 John 1:3

Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.

“How do people make it who do not know the Lord?”

I was going through some old papers trying to know what to discard and what to keep when I came upon a notebook that had prayers that I had written when Pat and I were younger, and the children were small. It reminded me of precious and struggling days as we tried to raise our family; there was an abundance of laughter and tears. There is no doubt in my mind that we have made it through life by God’s mercy and grace.

There is great encouragement in the hymn, “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing.” The words, “Here I raise mine Ebenezer, hither by thy help I’ve come,” describe life’s journey for many of us. Ebenezer means, “Stone of Help.” It was a stone that Joshua set up as a monument for help received from the Lord during a battle with the Philistines. He declared that the Lord had helped thus far; and he would help with battles to come.

Over the years, Pat and I have sent a lot of worried prayers upward; and none went ignored or unheard. In His time blessings came down and answers were found. We do not say that our faith is great; but that the Lord is good, and his mercy is everlasting.

Do you realize that many of the miracles in the Gospel had nothing to do with the person’s faith, and everything to do with Jesus’ mercy? He just saw their need and had compassion for them. Some did not even know who he was until after the Savior touched them.

A frequent question is, “How do people make it who do not know the Lord?” The answer is easy: They make it by the Love, grace, and mercy of God. They may not know him, but he knows them; and he knows you and me. It is amazing that even though he knows us, he still loves us.

My Dad used to sit down at the piano and play and sing a song that asked one of life’s greatest questions. I knew he really wanted to know the answer; and I do too. He found the answer in his heavenly home years ago; but we will keep singing for a while longer.

“When I’m reminded of His words, I’ll leave you never
If you’ll be true I’ll give to you life forever
Oh I wonder what I could have done
To deserve God’s only Son
To fight my battles until they’re won
For who am I?”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
