Colossians 2:14
“He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.”
“My sin, not in part, but the whole, is nailed to His Cross”
We happened to meet some longtime friends in a restaurant, so we ate together. “One check, or two,” the waitress asked. “One, and give it to me,” two of us said. I wonder how many times a server must settle that argument. She brought the check and handed it to our friend across the table, and then she gave me one also. “You can settle it between yourselves,” she smiled and walked away. I looked at mine, and it was a blank piece of paper.
Our life on earth comes with many bills that need to be paid. Not everyone is on equal ground when it comes to this. For some, there is just not enough to make ends meet. There are others who will never know what it is like to worry about keeping your electricity on, water flowing, food on the table, or gas in the tank. Somewhere in the middle of the two are the rest of the folks.
It is also true that many cannot comprehend just how deep in debt that we are all in. We owe more to one another than we can ever pay. How do you place a price tag on laughter, compassion, a kind word spoken on a difficult day, a hug, or just a genuine friendship? What did we pay for learning to sing “Jesus Love Me” and what about all those gold nuggets of wisdom and tips on life that came to us with “no charge?”
There is another bill that we must consider: “The wage of sin is death.” It will come due, there is no escaping it.
Three crosses stood on a hill. Life’s bill had come due. The one in the middle said, “Put it all on one check and give it to me.” One refused grace, but the other said, “Jesus, remember me.” Both, Jesus, and this man were given a check. With Jesus the sin of humankind was nailed to the cross. The thief looked at his bill; it was a blank sheet of paper.
“My sin—oh, the bliss of this glorious thought. My sin, not in part, but the whole, is nailed to His Cross, and I bear it no more; Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!”
Grace and Peace, and Praise the Lord, Rev Ray
