Rev. Ray and Pat Amos
Hebrews 3:7
Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit says, “TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE…”
“SOMEONE IS CALLING MY NAME”
I was in a military dental chair with a mouth full of fingers and instruments. Another dentist came in and was telling my dentist that his patient signed in, and then apparently bailed. Then he said the name and I realized that I knew the airman he was talking about; I even knew where he was, but I couldn’t talk. The dentist looked at his chart, and then at the name on my fatigues. “Your airmen didn’t leave; I have him right here. I should be taking care of Davis, not Amos.” It seems that when I was in the waiting room, I only thought I heard them calling my name.
A song that I love says, “Hush, hush, somebody’s calling my name…Oh, my Lord, oh, my Lord, what shall I do.” Unlike the dentist, when Heaven calls, I can’t get in on somebody else’s name; and I sure don’t want to be so busy listening to everything else that is going on that I don’t hear.
Christians beware, we might be doing too much talking, and not enough listening to the voice of God. We would do well to get acquainted, or reacquainted, with that “Still Small Voice.” God says, “I have called you by your name, you are mine.” Have you heard Him?
At home, I only have to say the name “Duke” one time, and I have a faithful and loyal dachshund by my side. Solomon could have written, “Go to the dog and learn its ways, and be wise.” I want to affirm the words of the song, “When the Savior calls, I will answer. When He calls for me, I will hear. When the Savior calls, I will answer; I’ll be somewhere listening for my name.”
“Hush world; hush with the noise of politics and opinions, hush with the whining and blaming, hush with the drama and complaining; hush! SOMEBODY’S CALLING MY NAME.”
Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
