Psalm 73:23
“Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand.”
“JESUS HOLD MY HAND”
A car had somehow gotten upon a sidewalk and was stuck. Driving by the distressed vehicle, I couldn’t help but notice the bumper sticker that said, “God Is My Co-pilot.” How many times has that been my problem?
Perhaps it is time to get out of the pilot’s seat and trust God to control this thing called life.
The path was rugged, but the toddler did not want his father to hold his hand. No, he would hold his father’s hand. There is a difference, and it may help us understand something about faith. When he held his father’s hand he kept falling because that hand was too big for his little fingers to grip. Then he surrendered and let his father hold his hand; and the boy stopped falling.
I can’t tell you how many times I have fallen because of the same reason. The only way to stay up is to let go of pride, and the need to be in control; and then surrender to the gentle and strong hand of God.
The great evangelist, E. Stanley Jones, suffered a major stroke at the age of 87. He wrote, “The glorious thing was that my faith was not shattered. I WAS NOT HOLDING IT; IT WAS HOLDING ME. I could still put up my three fingers and say, ‘Jesus is Lord!”
Now, turn to number 52 in the Red Church Hymnal: “Jesus, hold my hand. I need Thee every hour. Through this pilgrim land, protect me by Thy power. Hear my feeble plea, O Lord, look down on me. When I kneel in prayer, I hope to meet you there; Blessed Jesus, hold my hand”
