Proverbs 15:15
“All the days of the afflicted are evil, but he who is of a merry heart has a continual feast.”
“A MERRY HEART”
All the days of the afflicted are evil, but he who is of a merry heart has a continual feast.” Proverbs 15:15
“I’m singing in the rain, just singing in the rain,
What a glorious feeling, I’m happy again.
I’m laughing at clouds so dark up above,
The sun’s in my heart and I’m ready for love.
Let the stormy clouds chase everyone from the place,
Come on with the rain, I’ve a smile on my face.”
A couple were crossing the street during a chilling rain. I could not help but notice their joyful spirit. One was dancing across the way as though he had not a care in the world. I was in the warmth of the car and wondering what could possibly make a person dance such a jig. You see, it seemed obvious that they were homeless.
I have thought about some of the happiest people that I have known. People who lived consistently with a spirit of joy. Many of them had little of this world’s treasures; and some had plenty of its heartaches. I have seen the hurting tears in their eyes. Somehow, I knew those tears would once again sing, “I’m so glad that troubles don’t last always.”
A merry heart is not only a medicine that does us good, but it is also a continual feast that comes like manna from God. I feel certain that the crowd that enjoyed Jesus in the Gospel were the people who were thankful for life; and who were not always complaining and grumbling that something else was wrong.
Who is the happiest person in the Bible? One possibility is Asher, the Son of Jacob and Zilpah. His name means “Happy.” He lived a moderate life when it came to possessions. He seems best known for the fact that he raised his family (tribe) to revere the Lord, and to respect one another. That should make any believer happy. What does it take to make you and me happy?
“I found happiness, I found peace of mind
I found the joy of living, perfect love sublime
I found real contentment, happy living in accord
I found happiness all the time
Wonderful peace of mind
When I found the Lord!”
