Numbers 21:7
“The people came to Moses and said, ‘We sinned against the LORD … Pray that the LORD will take the snakes away from us.’ So, Moses prayed for the people.”
“GIVE EVERYTHING TO JESUS”
In the forty-seven years of ministry, I had five appointments that were made up of nine churches: country, coalfield, and down-town. Board meetings have covered many subjects between, what to do with the outdoor toilet, to how do we take care of the stained-glass windows. Each congregation had its own DNA, and each congregation has the same unchanging God.
On a Sunday morning in one church the piano would not play. An investigation showed that a mouse had built a nest in it. We cleaned it out, had worship; and the next Sunday the church mouse had done it again.
It was an old building sitting on logs. Some work needed to be done under it, and one of our young men volunteered to do it. I stood outside as he crawled between the logs. I soon heard him calling on the Lord. It sounded like an old-time revival going on beneath the church floor. There was a large black snake crawling across his legs.
On the next Saturday I got the call. Some members went to clean the church and discovered that the mouse was not there anymore. They also found a large black snake resting by the piano looking a little sheepish. They removed the snake, and we all worshiped happily ever after (most of the time).
Just like that church, there can be spiritual rodents and serpents that take away life’s music and peace. These things can be our attitude, an unforgiving spirit, everyday irritations, worries gone wild, and a long list of things. Some folks call Wildlife Control Experts for the removal of unwanted critters; but the only way remove undesirable pest from our heart is to call on Jesus.
“He never said you’d only see sunshine. He never said there’d be no rain. He only promised a heart full of singing about the very thing that once brought pain.
Give them all, Give them all, Give them all to Jesus; shattered dreams, wounded hearts, broken toys.
Give them all, give them all, give them all to Jesus. He will turn your sorrow
Into joy.”
