Rev. Ray and Pat Amos
Psalm 81:16
“But I would feed you with the finest of the wheat, and with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”
“THE BLUE RIBBON OF HEAVEN”
We called him the Bee Man; we didn’t know his name. He appeared to have traveled life’s pathways a long time. The man, thin as a bean pole, was ready to sell another jar of honey at the Farmer’s Market; but I suspect that he mostly enjoyed spending his Saturday mornings around people. Pat checked on him every time we went to the market.
The first time we met him, Pat asked, “Is the honey good?” Now, I didn’t expect him to say no, yet I was fascinated with the way he answered: Without speaking a word he simply reached over and tapped on a jar of honey that had a Blue Ribbon hanging on it.
That was a lesson in personal evangelism. We can sometimes do better with less talking and more pointing to the Blue Ribbon that is the evidence that Christ is alive in our lives.
In the Gospel of John, the term “Come and see” is used frequently. We need never argue faith with anyone when we can say “Come and see.” The evidence will speak for itself.
The Farmer’s Market had opened after the winter break. The honey was still for sale, but our friend was not there. When Pat asked about him, we learned that he had died in the winter. We felt sad to think that our friend, the Bee Man, was gone.
We all have personal views of Heaven in our earthly mind, and today I keep thinking about the Bee Man at home in a land that flows with milk and honey. If we could just ask him, “Is the honey good?” I have a feeling that he might not say a word but wave his hand across a panoramic view of unimaginable beauty, and then point to the blue ribbon of Heaven and earth: Jesus Christ our Lord.
