Trust; Fear Not

“What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. In God, whose word I praise– in God I trust and am not afraid.”

“Psalm 56:3-4”

“What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. In God, whose word I praise– in God I trust and am not afraid.” Psalm 56:3-4

The words of this Psalm are a confession that God’s people do get afraid. They are also an acknowledgement that trusting God is how we cast off those fears.

I admit it; there are times that I am afraid, and there are days when I want to run and hide; to take the wings of morning and fly away. Some days I just need the loving arms of the Savior, and His words of reassurance that we will get through. “Peace is not the absence of problems, but the presence of God.”

We can all thank God that wherever we hide, He can find us. “If I ascend to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, You are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle by the farthest sea, even there Your hand will guide me; Your right hand will hold me fast.…” Psalm 139:8-10

E. Stanley Jones said that if you must flee, then flee forward, to the next opportunity. If life kicks you then make it kick you forward.

The cure for our fears is to trust in God. We are not equipped with a “Trust Jesus” button that we can push. This kind of trust comes from walking daily with God. That is one of the reasons that James tells believers to count it all joy when trials and tough days come. Those are learning days that give strength to faith; days that I imagine the Lord saying to His children, “Watch and learn.”

Keep saying, “I will” until it replaces the “I can’t.” Keep on praising the Lord. “He is your praise and He is your God, who has done for you these great and awesome wonders your eyes have seen.” (Deuteronomy 10:21)

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
