Love and Discipline

“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.”

“2 Timothy 1:7”

A few days ago after writing and checking and rechecking for errors, this paragraph kept speaking:

“Love without Discipline” is not good. So, “Discipline” must walk hand in hand with “Love”. It is discipline that helps us guard against the blocks, rocks and shocks of life that can confuse our characters and mangle our potentials.

Most of us think of discipline when we are raising our children when the fact is: If we are to honor God and ourselves, most of our lives will be spent in “self-discipline”.

Feelings of Love is a wonderful emotion, but it does not come without the need of self-discipline and the responsibility that comes along with feelings and the ability to Love.

What do we need to Love . . . A heart willing to love, honor, acceptance, the ability to have courtesy, respect . . . and when love is confronted, we need the ability to leave our dignity and another’s in tact as we are teaching others how to Love us . . . and ourselves how to Love with self-discipline.

It is only our Holy Father who has the perfect love and Who can be our inspiration and best Teacher of Self-discipline in Loving. Why do we need the Lord Jesus? In every way, everyday but our prayer can be, “Father teach us how to Love.”

In that same paragraph, also spoken about are the the rocks, shocks and blocks of life when Love, rhythms and routines of life loses its footings. May we have the Blessings of knowing how to pray and knowing how to receive His Love, His Perfect Love . . . To get back on track with changes in our maturity of Love, rhythms, routines and our footings.

God knows our hearts; He knows our needs even when we are not sure of how to find ourselves. Whom else can know us fully? He cares about what we care about even if it’s something that only we ourselves finds of value.

As He has the perfect unconditional Love, we have to learn to Love with discipline. It gives us purpose, witness and honors the Lord and honors ourselves.
