Don’t Disappointment Prevent You From Seeing
“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
“Philippians 3:14”
A man was selling magazines when he fell in love. After a respectable period, he asked the young lady to marry him. Without hesitation she answered him. Marrying her would make him the happiest man in the world. Neither did he hesitate to respond when she said “no.” He asked her, “Then will you buy a magazine?” I am told that the man went on to be a Governor.
How do you handle life when you dream yes, but hear no?
Two disappointed people drug their feet as they walked back home. They were poor company to the man who was walking with them. “What’s wrong?” He asked. “Why are you so blue?” they answered, “We put all our trust in Jesus, now he is gone, dead! We had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel.” Their dreams had been dashed by a cross on a hill. Their disappointment was keeping them from seeing that it was Jesus who was walking beside them.
Paul prayed three times that the thorn in his flesh would go away. Three times God said, “No,’ but I will give you grace to get along with it.”
Sometimes He leads us around the storms, and other times through them; either way, the best is yet to come.
Paul was well acquainted with troubles. Many would have thrown up their hands and quit, but never him. He liked to use the term, “Press On.” He knew that whatever the storm, how high the mountain or wide the sea, the prize was on the other side, and he would get there by the grace of God.
“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:14
An old church hymn that has blessed many of us says, “There’s glory in my soul since Jesus took control, he placed within my heart a happy song; the joy-bells sweetly ring, while of his love I sing, press on, it won’t be very long.”
