TRUST IN HIM
“And she went right off and did it, did just as Elijah asked. And it turned out as he said—daily food for her and her family. The jar of meal didn’t run out and the bottle of oil didn’t become empty: GOD’s promise fulfilled to the letter, exactly as Elijah had delivered it!”
1 Kings 17:15-16 MSG
It was a severe drought and famine. Each day she fixed a small meal for herself and her son; and each day she worried more as the jar of flour was shrinking away (just like her hope). One more small meal and she knew it was over for them. That was when the stranger came along and asked, “Can you give me a cake of bread?” Did she grumble beneath her breath? “All I have is a little meal in a jar and somebody wants that.”
She couldn’t believe that the man would ask for her last bite. He looked healthy enough; someone had been feeding him well. Little did she know what God was about to do for her. He would see to it that the jar would never be empty during the rest of the drought.
“And she went right off and did it, did just as Elijah asked. And it turned out as he said—daily food for her and her family. The jar of meal didn’t run out and the bottle of oil didn’t become empty: GOD’s promise fulfilled to the letter, exactly as Elijah had delivered it!” 1 Kings 17:15-16 MSG
A woman said that she felt like her jar of faith was about empty, and one more problem would take what little is left. Another person said, “I don’t even know how to pray anymore;” and another feels like prayers are going unheard.
Did you know that our best prayers are the ones we don’t know how to pray? The power of prayer is not in the words we use, but the groans of our heart (Read Romans 8:26-27). Don’t let your feelings get louder than your faith because they will surely drag you down.
It is a mystery as to why some pray and find immediate answers, and others seem to go unheard. There are two things I do know: Whatever God does, or doesn’t do in answer to our prayer is his greatest act of Love; and when answers seem not sent or delayed, his Grace is sufficient for our need.
We have a promise that if we keep trusting God, our jar of faith will never run out. Don’t quit now; as the old song says, “Though we walk through valleys, though we climb high mountains, we must keep going; Canaan land is just in sight.”
Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
