Meekness and Politeness is Powerful

“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”

Matthew 5:5

So many things have changed in our world. Basic politeness and good manners risk getting lost in the box where unused and outdated things are stored. Blushing is becoming rare in a culture where sexuality has lost its sacredness, and words that once were called filthy have become common language on too many lips.

“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” Perhaps someday we will once again discover that God’s ways are not only different from our ways, but that they are also best. Consider how meekness is much more powerful than the aggressiveness of those who push and shove their way through life.

The old hound dog was trying to rest in the summer sun. There was a new puppy in the yard, and it was a pesky thing. How could he sleep when that pup was jumping and nibbling all over him? All it would have taken was one big snap and the puppy problem would have been gone, and the old hound had the power to do it; yet, he laid there allowing the little guy to bother him.

“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.” Matthew 5:5

The truth is that meekness is a demonstration of strength and power. The old hound had the power, but he also had a good nature that was stronger than any impulse to get mean with the puppy.

Meek people are not easily angered, and when they are mad, they control it. Meekness gives no place to revenge and harboring ill-feelings. For the Christian, meekness is the love of Christ being revealed in the face of some evil or unkindness.

When I am unfriendly in my ways and hateful in speech, I cannot excuse it by saying, “I am only human.” The truth is that I am resisting the nature of God that is planted in every heart; We were made in the likeness of God.

Do you remember this one?

“…Do good to your enemies, and the Blessed Lord you’ll surely please. How do I know, the Bible tells me so. Don’t worry about tomorrow, Just be real good today. The Lord is right beside you, he’ll guide you all the way. Have faith, hope and charity, that’s the way to live successfully; how do I know, the Bible tells me so.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
