Keep on, Child of God
“But you, be strong and do not let your hands be weak, for your work shall be rewarded!”
2 Chronicles 15:7
I believe that God wants us to keep on when keeping on seems pointless; to play a new song when we would rather hang our harps in the weeping willows of “What’s the use.” Jesus taught us that glory is found on the other side of the cross, so don’t give up because you have to carry it through a sinful world.
Having our name written in the Lamb’s Book of Life is not so we can feel at ease in this world. It is a responsibility to live as citizens of another world where Christ reigns.
This world is not an easy place; it wasn’t for Jesus either. The hymn ask, “Must I be carried to the skies on flowery beds of ease, While others fought to win the prize, and sailed through bloody seas?”
Keep on child of God, Keep on my soul, and don’t forget that we are not home yet. Until then, our heart will go on living. And when the way is tougher than us, we can keep praying the hymn:
“Since I must fight if I would reign,
Increase my courage, Lord!
I’ll bear the toil, endure the pain,
Supported by Thy Word.”
