LET US PRAY

“Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”

Romans 8:26-27

“And when He had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.” Matthew 14:23

“And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.” Mark 1:35

“And when it was yet day, He departed and went into a desert place. And the people sought Him, and stayed Him, that He should not depart from Him. And He said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent.” Luke 4:42, 43

“But so much he more went a fame abroad of Him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by Him of their infirmities. And He withdrew himself unto he wilderness, and prayed.” Luke 5:15, 16

“And it came to pass in those days, that He went into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.” Luke 6:12

Every disciple of Jesus Christ should–must–have some place to be alone with God. Unless such a place exists, secret prayer, as Jesus insists, will not be long nor constantly maintained. Jesus said, “But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret, and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.” Matthew 6:6

Secret prayer is particularly important: (1) in the morning, to commit one’s day to God, (2) In the evening, to give thanks for His provisions, protections, and His mercies, and (3) and times when the Holy Spirit prompts us to pray, “…without ceasing, ” I Thessalonians 5:17, as God’s Holy Spirit searches every praying heart “…knowing what is the mind of the spirit because He maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.” Romans 8:27
