Not Why, but What
“Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.”
“Psalm 42:11”
Can we be thankful to God even though we can’t get the answers to our “why” questions?
Some of you have heard me say to your situation, “I don’t know why, but I do know this, “God loves you.” Even if we could know why, I am not sure that it would help much. It is experiencing the Love of God through the tough times that strengthens our faith and keeps us going.
There is another “Why” question that is just as unanswerable as the first. It is, “Why are we so blessed?” Why do we have so much more than most of the world population? Remember the man who was healed by the pool of Bethesda (John 5). Why was he chosen when there were plenty others waiting on a miracle?
Perhaps “Why?” isn’t as important as “What.” What do we do with our blessings? What does God expect from this? GRACE IS NEVER WITHOUT PURPOSE.
This is Thanksgiving week, and while our blessings are on our mind, we should remember that Jesus said, “For unto whom much is given, from him/her much will be required.” Remember that we are stewards of our blessings, and not the owner.
“Love sent my savior to die in my stead;
Why should He love me so?
Why should my Savior to Calvary go?
Why should He love me so?”
Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
