“The Lord is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” Deuteronomy 31:8
Yesterday we looked back to remember the faithfulness of God in the places we have been. Today we rejoice in knowing that when we get to where we are going, Christ will already be there.
When we walk with God the direction is “onward.” Memories are a rearview mirror, but the windshield reveals the direction that we are going. We can let the past be either an anchor, or a propeller to our boat.
Our Lord used terms like, “Follow Me,” and “go ahead” to a certain place. The only ones he “sent back” were the ones who were not willing to risk letting go.
My journey has often been encouraged by a song I silently sing: “It will be worth it all when we see Jesus! Life’s trials will seem so small when we see Christ. One glimpse of his dear face, all sorrow will erase. So, bravely run the race till we see Christ.”
When we stop trying to rebuild yesterday, we are ready to live today. None of us know what tomorrow may bring, but we do know who will meet us there. I look into the rearview and can say, “He has been so faithful to me.” I look through the morning windshield and pray the words of another song:
“Follow, I will follow Thee, my Lord,
Follow every passing day.
My tomorrows are all known to Thee;
Thou wilt lead me all the way.”
“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9
