“Ray Amos – 1st Samuel 17:58”
From March 19th, 2024

Rev. Ray and Pat Amos

“Whose son are you?” Saul asked him. David said, “I am the son of your servant Jesse of Bethlehem.” 1st Samuel 17:58

“Whose son are you?” When I was a child, if you were asked that question you might be afraid that someone was going to “tell on you” for something that you did. In the text above, Young David had slain Goliath, and the king wanted to know whose son he was.

There is a lot of discouragement these days. Troubles come in bunches, life gets tangled in a web we did not see, friends betray friends, prayers go seemingly unanswered, and those who serve the Lord get mired down in the swamp of it all.

That is why it is of upmost importance that we can answer the question, “Whose son or daughter are you?” When we know without hesitation who our father is, then we know who we are. Christian friend, “you didn’t receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, ‘Abba! Father!” (see Romans 8:15)

Friend, you are a child of God, and you can face any giant that is in your path today! Don’t give up, just know that you are a child of the King. Your Father owns the cattle on a thousand hills; in His house there is bread and enough to spare. Know that when you have done the best you can, and your friends misunderstand; your Heavenly Father knows all about it and stands by you.

If you are discouraged, then spend some time with Our Father today. Let it be personal and meaningful time. Too often we get “all religious” with God, when all he wants is to be our Father.

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
