“Ray Amos – Lamentations 3:22”
From March 3rd, 2024

Rev. Ray and Pat Amos

The hammer was silent, the mockers were gone; there were only the sparrows to sing a sad song. Hatred out of control had crucified the Son of God.

It was the Sabbath, and the worshipers would recite, “Thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.” Were their words cold on that day? Did the temple halls ring an empty echo where the presence of God was once felt? They were finally rid of him, they thought.

How could they convince God that they loved Him when yesterday they crucified his Son?

It is Holy Saturday, what lessons do we learn from the time when Mary’s son slept breathlessly between death and resurrection?

God is a merciful God. He who had shaken the earth and ripped the temple curtain at the death of Jesus could have torn the world apart in His anger, but He did not. “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed.” Lamentations 3:22²

Even when religion is wrong, God always has faithful followers. No doubt there were those who gathered to worship who truly did Love God. It is by being together in worship that we are given strength and encouragement to hold on when it is not so easy to do so.

Thank God for hope that is buried deep in those who love Him. It is the kind that keeps us when we feel like we have no hope at all. There are many times that we too may have felt like quitting, or giving up, but something (or someone) would not let go of us.

It is Holy Saturday, the day after the cruelest deed that people on earth could do; and the day before God would undo the shame of Calvary. The angels waited with ready wings.

“Low in the grave He lay, Jesus my Savior, waiting the coming day, Jesus my Lord!”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
