“Ray Amos – 10-4-2024 – Numbers 7:9”
From October 4th, 2024

Rev. Ray and Pat Amos

“But Moses did not give any wagons to the Kohathites, because they were to carry on their shoulders the holy things, for which they were responsible.” Numbers 7:9

Perhaps this seems unfair. “Why did they have to walk and carry the burden when the rest got wagons?” The people understood that they had the responsibility and privilege of caring for what was near to the heart of God. Those items were precious and could not just be piled on the back of a wagon.

When disasters come our way, the sleeping goodness of humanity seems to awaken. People pull together instead of apart, and folks pitch in to help with the resources and abilities that God has given them. Some have much to offer, some only a little; but it takes all of it to meet the needs of broken lives.

God is Love, and He has given us the task of helping the folks who desperately need it. Sometimes that requires wagons such as the vehicles carrying relief items to disaster areas, food trucks, medical equipment and such. Other times we get no wagons because this kind of love can only be passed from one beating heart to another. It requires our touch, compassionate eyes, listening ears, and understanding.

God has put it in the hearts of people to care for one another, and I don’t think that he is feeling let down during this flood disaster in the mountains around here.

When the task was too much, God told Moses to simply use what was in his hand, his staff. What is in our hands that can be used to help someone today? Even if we have nothing in our hands, we can always use what is in our heart.

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
