“For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts…” 2 Corinthians 4:6
Yesterday we remembered the song, “Into My Heart” written in 1924. Those simple words have inspired many of us since our childhood days. Another verse of that song says:
“Out of my heart, out of my heart,
Shine out of my heart, Lord Jesus;
Shine out today, shine out alway;
Shine out of my heart, Lord Jesus.”
Years ago I told an older saint as she was leaving the worship service that she was beautiful. She truly was a beautiful life among us. She said to me that old folks like her were beautiful because their skin was thin and the light of Jesus on the inside could shine through more than ever.
Jesus told us that as his disciples we are to be light in this world. When people speak of the darkness of our time, it can only be because something has happened to the light in our hearts. This world will be no darker than we let it be.
Perhaps it’s time to trim our lamps, turn up the lights, open the doors and windows of our heart, and let our lights shine for Jesus. We have a choice; We can complain about the darkness, or let our little light shine.
“This little light of mine
I’m gonna let it shine
This little light of mine
I’m gonna to let it shine
This little light of mine
I’m gonna to let it shine
Let it shine, let it shine.”
