A friend was helping move some furniture when he bumped his head. After the pain eased, he said that he was fading in and out like Fort Wayne. I don’t expect everyone to understand what that means, but some of us are old enough to know exactly what he was saying.
Do you remember nighttime radio years ago when it faded in and out. There was a haunting sound to it as different stations competed for the same frequency.
The crazy stuff that we watched on “The Jetsons” has become a way of life, even though I am much more comfortable with The Flintstones. Who can begin to know what today’s children will see tomorrow.
It’s amazing how the unchanging Christ is always up to date with the world we live in. The One who hung the stars in the sky is the same who now breathes on the space station as it orbits the earth. He was the fourth man in the fire with the three Hebrew children and is with those who today are suffering in the fire of hatred and violence. He who spoke healing into the broken lives of many, now guides the hands of surgeons, and whispers into the mind of those who give good counsel.
His was a voice that proclaimed Good News from mountain tops, and by the seaside. Today He stands beside faithful pastors in pulpits; and He who blessed the loaves and fish, is now blessing the food pantry and soup kitchens.
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.” Technology may change our world, but only Christ can change our heart.
“Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.”
