“You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.” John 3:7
Everyone has a birthplace, but not everyone knows where it is. Some communities post a sign when their town is the birthplace of someone who is famous. The time and place of birth are an important fact of our life. We have often been asked for that information over the years; sometimes we had to provide proof with a Birth Certificate.
Do you have a Birth Certificate in Heaven? Is your name written in the Lamb’s Book of Life?
There is an old Gospel song that says, “I can tell you now the time, I can take you to the place, where the Lord saved me by His wonderful grace.”
Jesus said that a person must be born again. Our spiritual birth is an experience as much as our physical birth was. For every believer there was a time when we were not a Christian, then a time when we were. Some remember it with joy, while others cannot tell you an exact moment or place, even though now they confess openly that Christ has forgiven them of sin, and that Jesus is Lord.
Once I wondered how that could be, then I met a man who had been born as a refugee. He never knew his parents, or the details of his birth; yet it was obvious that he had been born.
To remember that moment of rebirth is wonderful, but it is a much better thing for our lives to bear witness of our being Alive in Christ whither we remember the exact moment it happened or not.
“I will sing it and tell it wherever I go,
I want all to hear it, I want all to know,
The joy of salvation that makes the heart glow,
For I have been born again.”
